How to Make Fitted Bed Skirt
Fitted bed skirt – Twin bed edges are a great addition to scheme the decoration of the guest bedroom or a child’s room. In addition to hiding any dust motes, a bed skirt helps to finish off a room, giving it a more polished look. Commercially manufactured bed edges can be expensive and it can be difficult to find one that matches your color scheme. Making your own low cost double bed skirt is a much more innovative solution. Measure your bed height from the top of the spring box on the floor with a tape measure. This will be the width of the required fabric for the height of the skirt of the double bed. Measure the length of each side of your box spring. Write these measurements on paper for future reference.
Buy 3 to 5 adjustable sheets. You can buy any color or quality of the sheet that matches the decoration of your bedroom. If your measurement in first step was 19 inches or less of the height of the bed skirt, 3 adjustable sheets are needed for a fitted bed skirt. If your measurement was greater than 19 inches, or if you want a bed skirt to be gathered, 4 or 5 adjustable sheets are needed depending on the amount of gathering you want. Take the first adjustable sheet and place it on your spring mattress. Cut enough fabric to leave 1/2 inch along both sides and at the end of the bed. Be sure to leave the fabric on the head of the bed intact.
Cut the next sheet in half if the measurement of the height of the fitted bed skirt was 19 inches or less. If the measurement was longer, cut two sheets lengthwise to match the measurement of your height. Use your measurement for the width of the spring mattress box and the length of your other cutting pieces to cut the platform section of the foot of the bed skirt. If you want to make a double bed skirt with ruffles, double the length of each section. You may have to cut the new leaves from the length of the added hive. Pin a piece of cloth to the original inner sheet that covers the spring mattress. For a straight double bed skirt, pin directly, for a gathered bed skirt pin the entire length of the cloth of the frills distribution evenly.
